When people in Covington and elsewhere are driving recklessly, terrible tragedies can occur. That was evident in a recent car accident in nearby Walton. According to one report, a 1999 Nissan Altima was forced from the roadway and flipped around 3 p.m. along I-71/75 on July 12.

Witnesses say the driver of the Nissan was speeding. They apparently began swerving to the left before abruptly veering to the right. The car drove off the road where it hit a culvert. The car was thrown in the air. It flipped one and a half times before landing on its top.

Two people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both of them were thrown from the vehicle. A 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old man was flown to University Hospital. Authorities have not yet determined who was driving the vehicle.

The interstate was closed in both directions for about an hour following the crash.

Car accidents happen all too frequently in Covington and beyond. When accidents do happen, people can be left with severe injuries. Those injuries may even be fatal.

When people are injured as a result of an accident they may be able to pursue legal action in the form of a personal injury lawsuit. Family members who lose a loved one in an accident may also be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against any negligent parties. Although most car accidents are unintentional, drivers whose reckless behavior causes harm to others should be held responsible.
