Accusations of sexual abuse are very serious in Kentucky and in every other state across the country. Even if a person is not found guilty of the crimes, their reputation may be tarnished. It is for that reason that anyone facing charges of sexual abuse should consider working with an experienced criminal defense attorney who can prepare a strong defense against the charges.
One Kentucky man in particular may benefit from working on a strong criminal defense. Recently, a substitute teacher was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
According to a news source, two girls under the age of 16 claim that the man ran his hands across their breasts. The girls alerted school officials to the alleged abuse, and the man was removed from the school that same day. School officials then contacted police. Later that night, the man was arrested at his home. However, he was later released on bail.
School district officials released a statement to parents informing them that the substitute teacher will no longer be allowed to work in the school. He is also not allowed to be on school property.
Although district officials applauded the students, teachers and school administration for their swift action, their assumption that the man is guilty of these crimes may be in violation of his rights.
In the United States, people who are charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless they are proven guilty in a court of law. However, in this case, school officials took action before a thorough investigation could be completed.
