People expect that they will be safe when they are walking down the streets in Kentucky, but another person’s inattention and negligence can cause serious harm to pedestrians.
Recently, a 38-year-old man was involved in a pedestrian accident. According to reports, the man was walking on a sidewalk when he collided with another person on a bicycle. The impact of the initial collision sent the 38-year-old man partially into the street where he was then hit by an oncoming car.
The man was taken to an area hospital after the accident with multiple injuries, including injuries to his head. He was first listed in critical condition.
The bicyclist was not injured in the crash. Police say the driver of the car and the bicyclist did cooperate, but authorities are still investigating the accident.
Although it appears that no criminal charges will be filed, the man may have cause for a personal injury lawsuit. As police continue to investigate the incident it may be determined that the driver was not paying attention to the road. If that is the case, they should be held responsible for the harm they caused to the 38-year-old man.
Cars are not toys, and when drivers are reckless they must suffer the consequences. People who are injured in accidents can suffer life-changing injuries. They may require surgery, lengthy rehabilitation and may be unable to work. Residents in Kentucky who have been injured in an accident may want to consider pursuing compensation. No one should have to suffer because of another person’s negligence.
