Nicholas D. Summe
Nick has been licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky since November 2009. However, he has many years of experience in the legal system. Before attending law school, and during his legal studies, Nick clerked for local attorneys involved in civil litigation. Additionally, while attending law school, Nick spent a summer as an extern in a local judge's office, learning firsthand how the courtroom operates. Since being license to practices law, Nick has volunteered as second chair in many felony and misdemeanor trials in local courts, gaining valuable experience. Nick enjoys the courtroom and is more than capable of litigating any Civil or Criminal case.
Nick oversees all criminal and civil litigation at Dickman Law Office, PSC. Since joining Dickman Law Office he has successfully tried Criminal and Civil cases in Federal and State Courts throughout Northern Kentucky, as lead attorney and as second chair.
Nick's is detailed oriented and has an organized approach to litigation. Combined with his natural persuasiveness in the court room, he makes for a perfect combination when it comes to advocating for our clients.
Some of his accomplishments include:
- Successfully defending an Iraqi War Veteran and Purple Heart recipient against charges of vehicular manslaughter, wanton endangerment and D.U.I, alongside of Paul Dickman. His client was facing 20 years in prison. This was Nick's first Felony trial and was faced with seven “confessions.” With a superior command of the evidence and insight into the case, Nick was able to overcome these statements made by is client and demonstrate to the jury that evidence was overwhelming in his clients favor, as was the truth. After a four day trial and a dramatic and stunning closing argument delivered by Nick, which had members of the jury in tears, the jury returned a not guilty verdict in under an hour

- In the summer of 2011, Nick successfully defended a former sorority member who was being sued, along side of her co-defendants, for $7.5 million. The suit stemmed from a hazing incident in 2009. In presenting a detailed account of the actions taken by the Plaintiffs during the alleged hazing incident Nick, along with co-counsel, was able to persuade the jury that that the damages claimed by the Plaintiffs were exaggerated and very limited. After a week-long trial, the jury awarded the Plaintiffs only $2,500.00 for their alleged damages.
- Co-chaired case with Paul Dickman in representation of an elderly woman who had been defrauded out of inheritance money by a local bank employee. Paul and Nick successfully negotiated a settlement for over $350,000.00 for their client.
- In the summer of 2011, Nick, along side of Paul, Dave Schulenberg, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee, successfully convinced a Federal Judge that the court should not discharge a debt of over $200,000.00 owed to his client. Nick went on to obtain a judgment for that amount in state court in a breach of contract action and is currently collecting on the debt.
- In the fall of 2011, Nick obtained over a $50,000.00 judgment for his client in another breach of contract action.
- In December 2012, Nick persuaded a jury in a statutory rape case that is client had been falsely accused by a local family. The jury was out less than an hour.
- In January 2012, Nick co-chaired, along side of another local attorney, and successfully defended a client charged with three counts of robbery and two counts of wanton endangerment. The client was facing up to seventy years in prison. The jury returned a verdict of Not Guilty in less than forty-five minutes.
- Co-Chaired many DUI cases in Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties. In this role Nick aggressively assists Paul, as well as other attorneys in thoroughly examining all of the evidence, challenging the admissibility and the legality of the evidence, and persuasively advocating for clients. Nick's assistance in these cases has been an invaluable asset to clients in securing acquittals or reduced charges for over 50% of all DUI cases.
- Co-Chaired investigations and settlements of numerous personal injury and automobile accident cases for Dickman Law Office. In this role Nick's detailed approach to collection and organization of evidence on liability and damages has helped Dickman Law Office secure settlements in excess of $1 Million for their clients in the past few years.
- Lead attorney in the investigation and pursuit of claims relating to natural resource and environmental law matters for numerous local clients. These cases include gasoline contamination, child lead poisoning, noise pollution, toxic mold, geotechnical and landslide issues, drainage and water pollution cases, and cases involving damages from blasting around nearby mining operations.
